The search giant Google is removing the “Movies and TV” tab from the play store. This section will be moved to the Google TV app. Google TV App will be a new one-stop-shop to buy, rent, and watch movies. The changes will come into effect from May 2022. Only the Play Movies & Tv tab is being removed; still, you can buy books from the Play store.
Google TV App To Get ‘Movies & TV’ Tab From Play Store
The company claims that the content which is already purchased will be available in the Google TV app. And also, that content will be eligible for Google Play Points and family sharing. Your wishlist will also be accessible in the Google TV app, and the Play credit and gift cards can also be used to make purchases. Google says that, you can still view and request refunds for your purchases on Google Play. Google Play support page reads, “Starting in May 2022, the Google TV app will be your home for buying, renting, and watching movies and shows on your Android mobile device or tablet. On the Google Play app, Movies & TV will no longer be supported. Google Play will continue to be your store for apps, games, and books.” According to Google, this change will not affect the overall buying and renting for end-users. Earlier in 2020, Google renamed the Play Movie & TV app to Google TV. Last year, the dedicated Play Movies & TV app was removed from Roku and other platforms. When YouTube Music replaced the Play equivalent, Google stopped selling songs and albums that were available for purchase individually. Google TV rebrand was limited in the US; last year, in September, it came to 14 more countries.
